Temporary Road Closure April 9, 2016

Southeast Asia's leading ride-booking app Grab yesterday launched the OpenTraffic platform to help address traffic woes and road safety challenges in Metro Manila and Cebu.

Launched in partnership with the World Bank and Department of Transportation and Communications (DOTC), the OpenTraffic initiative will provide real-time data to help better manage traffic flow and ease road congestion.

Grab and the World Bank have been developing free open-source tools like OpenTraffic, using the ride-hailing app's GPS data in analyzing traffic speed and flow.

With OpenTraffic, commuters and drivers can expect improvements in traffic situations based on studies that will be conducted during the test.

Among the improvements is the conduct of peak hour analysis along key corridors, which can help in designing effective travel demand management policies.

With the initiative, the travel time will be measured and used as a benchmark for making improvement.

The DOTC can design flexible routing schemes by analyzing traffic flow during inclement weather.
